In a valley up the side of a hill dotted with houses and brothels, on top
of a flat black rock that overhangs the edge of a cliff, Vergot slowly responds to Bruto's
questions. |
|
"I have been in search of the snake for what seems like
ages..." |
|
"How did it all start?" |
"It's been so long that the memories before it are fading... I remember a golden
woman and a castle..." |
"Where was this castle? How did you leave it for such a
hopeless search?" |
"Something happened that changed everything... I remember a great wave of cold, the
cloouds themselves frozen in the middle of the sky..." |
"WHere I come from, that probably happened long ago. It's
been dark and cloudy ever since I can remember..." |
|
Vergot turns his head slightly then and stares once again at the hardened man of soft
eyes that sits in front of him. |
|
"Where did you come from? What is this place that is dark
forever?" |
|
"It is a place of endless violence and little rest. I have
been there for a much as I can remember clearly, even though, like you, other faint
memories are slowly fading in the background." |
|
"How did you come to leave this desert?" |
|
"My woman is a magician. She sent me here to
find a cure for the dark disease that corrodes her from within. I can say nothing of the
methods that she used for my travel. They are beyond my understanding." |
